Siem studied with Nathan Olivera at Stanford University in California where she received her Bachelor and Masters degrees. She has taught art at the Sonderjylland Art Academy,Denmark, and at The University of Maryland European Division. Siem currently lives in Maine with her husband, violinist, conductor Trond Seaverud, and has her own gallery, The J.B. Siem Gallery.
